Gary H Brown
Gary Brown’s Grandfather and Father were painters who significantly influenced and supported Professor Brown’s interest in art and his focus on painting and draftsmanship. His maternal Grandfather shared his in-depth knowledge of the ancient world and of Native Americans in both the north and south. This gave Brown a deep understanding and appreciation of the value and impact of the ancients.
Today, drawing, journaling and gardening form the core of Brown’s artistic practice.
Solo Exhibitions have been shown in Tokyo & Nishinomiya, Japan; Dublin, Ireland; Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, California; New York City; and Seattle, Washington, USA.
As a Professor of Art at the University of California, Brown taught in the Art Studio Department and the College of Creative Studies for 40 years and as Emeritus in the summer program for another seven. After 47 years dedicated to teaching literally thousands of students, Brown considers he has graduated to his new, full time interest as artist and gardener.
