Marybeth Hanrahan

I always knew I was an artist.
I create designs, sculpt, draw, mural paint, make public art, photograph and do performance art. I make art to finance my life, to promote social justice and insert beauty in ordinary settings. Civic engagement, and public art are a challenge to exhibit, I do show and sell art.
I consider confidence and versatility my Artist super powers!
Collaboration brings out the best in me.
Mural painting is the way I engage with marginalized populations- to raise awareness, and to give people a voice through direct action. For example, with the Tortilla Flats, Mural and Legacy Project, Moses Mora and myself collected oral histories and photos documenting the history of a neighborhood displaced by the construction of the 101 freeway through Ventura CA, (see TortillaFlats.org). We have created 3 public murals, 1993-present.
In 1996 I began hiring photographers to shoot my takes on American Holidays: a signed and numbered series of Mail Art photo cards.
We* published the book “Body of Work” 1996-2016, cataloging my Holidaze Card series.
My “great achievement” is sharing my talents to create positive change.
